Braunton Burrows: The Effects on the Vegetation of the Addition of Mineral Nutrients to the Dune Soils

Author: Willis, A.J.

Description: In earlier publications of this series (Willis, Folkes, Hope-Simpson & Yemm 1959a; Willis & Yemm 1961) it was shown that the vegetation of the dune system of Braunton Burrows, N. Devon, may be severely limited by the supply of mineral nutrients. The results of turf transplant cultures and the growth of tomato as an indicator plant in the sand suggested that the major nutrients, nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, were the chief deficiencies, minor minerals being present in adequate amounts
